The Institute was established in 1956 to conduct basic research in the field of operation, design and construction of machines used to convert energy in flows. Currently, research is conducted in the following fields: fluid mechanics, multiphase flows, thermodynamics and heat exchange, plasma physics, laser technology, machine mechanics, tribology and diagnostics. In addition to basic research, the Institute offers services related to practical engineering problems in the field of: turbines, pumps and hydrokinetic clutches, fans, ship propellers, solar collectors, design, technical calculations and expertises, construction of unique equipment and apparatus. The Polish Academy of Sciences (IMP PAN) in Gdansk is organizing the next Multiphase Workshops with the Summer School. The tradition of these meetings is a friendly atmosphere combining recognized authorities and young researchers, encouraging discussion and inspiring further research.
