new wife); Phantom – Michael Crawford (known for comedic roles on TV in England) Raoul – Steve Marton. Drink with Me..  Castle on a Cloud…I Dreamed a Dream – revisitations in semi complete or quite fragment forms different genres in the piece itself.  The verses are all 1920’s flapper gi*l style, even having some Charleston dancing during the instrumental breaks, and also contains the electric guitar, emulating the hard rock style that is mainly used throughout the show.  This makes a statement about Herod and his feeling towards Jesus in that Herod is really just in it for show and is not at all serious about his job.  Also, he thinks Jesus is a joke, and disrespects Him immensely through this song. than the screaming rock star quality that has been sung previously in the show.  She sings with vibrato and head voice at the beginning of the piece, and during the chorus she belts more, losing the vibrato.  Even with these two different styles in the same song, the chorus is still different from the genre of every other song.  To set her apart even more, this may be the only song in the whole musical that does not utilize an electric guitar.   The head voice sung at the beginning portrays that Mary is scared and timid.  Once she starts belting, she is becoming confused and searching for answers. Sternfeld makes a point that everyone makes jokes about “Cats”, but it was the longest running show, and it made tons and tons of money–why is this?   We find out at the end it is because there is no other musical that is all about cats…and cats are cuddly.  Plus these particular cats are excellent dancers and sing, which is awesome. The lyricist for “Cats” was T.S. Eliot, a dead poet who wrote about cats.  Because these disconnected stories were used, the show is less about plot and more about themes, i.e. young vs. old, depressed vs. happy.  The lyrics that didn’t come from T.S. Eliot came from Nunn, who sometimes wrote funny things like how theater isn’t like it used to be (Gus the Theater Cat.)

In this piece, it's kind of a theme for the melody's contour to rise at the beginning of phrases, and lower at the ends.  For the most part, the melody is conjunct.  However, the range is quite large for the soloist.  There is a part A and part B to this song, and each time…
